Button, button

I've wanted to do something to this effect for a while now. Thanks to my slightly unhealthy addiction to Pinterest I was itching to try some "button art". The problem with hanging things is that I need to find frames that don't cost tons. Hobby Lobby had an amazing sale on some painting canvases. I picked up a couple in sizes that I figure I could cover, glue things to, and use in other creative ways. I found a font where I liked the "C" and printed out a pattern and proceeded to arrange and hot glue different varieties of white, cream, grey, or clear buttons on it to form the "C". I fitted the fabric around the canvas and ta-da. Personalized wall hanging (which apparently seems to be the theme for this fabric).

Just to make sure, I know most of you received this fabric, but I had one not make it through the mail that I needed to resend. If yours didn't make it, I can send more.

A Birthday Present for Ruth

I took the blank canvas and sent it through my printer. I've done this before and haven't had any problems (like ruining the printer).I use a temporary spray glue to attach it to a piece of copy paper. I kept the squares separate so many more grandchildren can be easily added.

Blank Canvas...

I took the idea of the "blank canvas" and went with it, so here it is my colored canvas.  I appliqued the owl onto the fabric, which was going to be the end, but something was missing!  After about a week of thinking and seeing the owl sitting on the counter, I had an idea, I would use a stencil, fabric paint, and a sponge to dress up the background.  It looks fine, I am not in love with it, but I will hang it on the wall in my daughter's room and I am sure it will grow on me.  For future reference put the paint on the fabric first, then do the applique...

Just a note

Hey Everyone,

I just want you to know that the latest "blank canvas" marries well with my fabric which is next. So my project, which I haven't started yet, will use both fat quarters. I won't post it until after I mail it, and I won't mail it until half or more of you post your projects using the blank canvas... Unless you want it sooner so you can combine the two. Of course, I'm not telling you anything else about it, so you may not have a response. That's ok.

Simplicity and a blank canvas

I made quick use of this cozy red flannel. Our tiny tree was cold and naked. Immediately after receiving this fabric it served as a tree skirt, making our tannenbaum decent and warm. There it stayed, and as we left for our annual two week northern Midwest Christmas tour I decided it was perfect. No modification needed. (note to self - convince both families to move to a tropical location.) Perhaps next year it will get trimmed or updated in some fancy way, but this Christmas simplicity was nice.

The next round of fabric went on its this weekend and should be arriving in a mailbox near you shortly. I decided that to celebrate the new year we needed a "blank canvas". Start your creative engines!

Fabric #4 and following

The list of addresses we received with the first packet is also the order for the fabric-senders. I've been asked to supply the order so there is no doubt. If anyone needs the addresses let me know and I'll email them.

1 - Ruth (winter red) 2 - Kathy (fall leaves) 3 - Valerie (red flannel)
4 - Alycia 5 - Kate 6 - Angela 7 - Sue 8 - Karen

Someday I'll post my red flannel project - the day after Kathy posts her leaf project. :) I'm almost ready to start my next craft project; I just have one more holiday season thing to do tonight. (I'm serving a spaghetti and bison meatballs supper for Pastor's family. That sounds like an Epiphany meal, doesn't it?) So send me some fabric Alycia!

P.S. Does anyone know how to receive email notifications from this site if something new is posted? I know another blog site (Wordpress) that lets you subscribe to posts and to comments, and I haven't seen anything like that on blogger. Ideas?
